Pacific Netting Products (PNP) designed and built a 1,200-foot floating MultiFunction Boom for Appalachian Power Company. This boom serves two critical functions. Appalachian Power needed the Debris Boom for Leesville dam to prevent floating debris from entering the hydroelectric plant’s intake structures. The multifunction boom also guides the woody debris material to a designated nearshore area for easy removal.
PNP’s Debris Boom Ensures Durability
To ensure durability and effectiveness, PNP incorporated a heavy-duty, four-ply rubber debris guidance skirt. This 48-inch skirt extends below the boom to direct debris efficiently. The boom’s bright orange color improves visibility, making it easy to monitor and enhancing public safety.
PNP engineered the boom for long-term performance in demanding conditions. The structure consists of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) components designed to withstand environmental stressors. It connects using U-joint connectors, which allow it to adjust naturally to varying water depths and flow rates. This flexibility ensures that the boom remains functional in different reservoir conditions.
Appalachain Power Needed a Low Maintenance System
Appalachian Power needed a cost-effective, low-maintenance solution. PNP delivered a boom with minimal upkeep requirements, reducing long-term operational costs. The design includes shore anchors that keep it securely in place, even in changing weather and water conditions.
This boom remains deployed year-round, providing continuous protection for the hydroelectric plant. With an anticipated lifespan of 50 years, it offers a long-lasting solution for managing floating debris.
Key Features:
