Custom Sports Barrier Net for Surf Ranch in California

Pacific Netting Products (PNP) was selected to design, manufacture, and install a custom sports barrier net at Surf Ranch. Surf Ranch is an immersive surfing destination in Central California, featuring a man-made wave. The wave spans more than 2,300 feet and offers up to 60-second rides, making it one of the world’s most exciting surfing experiences. Markedly, Surf Ranch attracts some of the best surfers in the country.

PNP’s barrier net plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of both spectators and surfers. As the wave barrels along its quarter-mile course, the net protects observers and the surfers from any potential hazards. It is strategically placed to cover the entire length of the wave’s path, providing peace of mind during the thrilling rides.

INSTALLATION FEATURES

  • Total net length = 1,920’ (96 bays at 20’ each)
  • 4” X 4” 3.0mm 4 strand braided SK75B Dyneema®
  • Black 8 ply bonded Dyneema lacing twine
  • 1/4” Amsteel Blue Dyneema line for yoking and lashing
  • 1/4” black DM20 Dyneema for top lacing cord
  • Corrosion-resistant connectors

The total length of the barrier net is 1,920 feet, which protecting the length of the quarter-mile long surfing wave. The structure is split into 96 bays, each 20 feet long. PNP used high-performance materials to ensure durability and strength. The net is made from 4” x 4” mesh with 3.0mm, 4-strand braided SK75B Dyneema®, a material known for its extreme tensile strength. Additionally, black 8-ply bonded Dyneema lacing twine holds the net securely in place. For additional support, PNP used ¼” Amsteel Blue Dyneema line for yoking and lashing, and ¼” black DM20 Dyneema for the top lacing cord. Significantly, all connectors are corrosion-resistant, ensuring the net stands up to the tough coastal environment.
