Public Safety Barrier Overview
The Water Security Agency serves Saskatchewan, Canada by ensuring there is safe and abundant water throughout the province. Managing the Buffalo Pound Lake dam, they contracted PNP Containment Solutions to design and manufacture an HDPE public safety barrier on the eastern shoreline.
Buffalo Pound Lake is a popular recreational, camping and fishing lake, making it essential to block boats and swimmers from the dam. The dam itself is crucial for managing water along the Qu’Appelle River.
About the Design
PNP designed and manufactured a 75 m, 610 mm diameter co-extruded HDPE public safety barrier in yellow for superior visibility. Each barrier unit was 1500 mm long and spaced approximately 1000 mm apart over the entire span. This setup has full capability to operate and maintain full functionality throughout the entire range of depth and flows within Buffalo Pound Lake.
The boom restricted boat access and served as a public safety barrier while allowing debris to pass downstream. PNP applied an HDPE decal on the boom warning the public of the “Danger – Keep Out.”
At PNP, we focus on safety by choosing the highest quality fabrics and materials. We make sure all materials meet strict specifications and use proper fabrication techniques to ensure durability and performance. This proactive approach guarantees reliable safety solutions.
